Work 2017, No.1 »The Portrait of a Lady«

The idea is simple: a young American woman is confronted with her destiny, whatever it might be.
According to this thought Henry James wrote his novel (published 1881) of the free-spirited Isabel. She is losing her freedom—suddenly she is coming into a great deal of money—and getting „ground in the very mill of the conventional“.
Portrait of a Lady is an existentialist novel, as Isabel is very committed to living with the consequences of her choice with both integrity and a sort of stubbornness.
